Seeking Sanctuary

Blake, an intergalactic rogue lands on a space ark looking for a valuable item, not knowing what trouble awaits her.

Massey University 3rd year Major Project

My role was Motion Capture Technical Director + Clean-up Artist
When our idea was accepted into the Unreal Film Competition so we expanded our idea to include a prequel
Floating Rock came onboard as mentors for the project, assisting in story refinement and welcomed guidance
When the crew of a zoological space station refuse to obey the ship’s prime objective, its AI takes control; unleashing an ancient horror thought long extinct.
Having time over the mid-year break to work on this helped our team figure out how to work together and what our pipeline for each of our roles would be. A super essential time in this projects development, making mistakes and seeing how long each step would actually take.
Was a blast to get into the newly released Unreal 5 and use their Meta-Humans in conjunction with the Vicon Motion Capture System. I used Autodesk's Motion Builder to clean up the motion and had fun using Unreal's Live Link app to record our Actors facial movements.

When an exiled space rogue ventures onto the Ark, she discovers the once bustling zoological tourist hotspot is now home to a ferocious new being.
Our Final Trailer, an extension of the Prequel was a much smoother process to work on following the Unreal Film Competition. We understood the importance of making quick decisions to cut scenes and also how complex some of the stages were and to dedicate more time to them.
I enjoyed the whole Meta-Human process and troubleshooting the process between Unreal - Maya - Vicon - Motion Builder - Unreal.
In all I thoroughly enjoyed the Motion Capture process and loved the problem solving technical aspects and the hands on set up and motion shooting days with the team.
